Donutology Selection Committee

The North Carolina Donut Division (NCDD) believes in transparency in all their actions. As such, the selection process and credentials of committee members are released to the general public. Each member of the committee selected candidate donuts were purchased from various local and national vendors. The selection committee then convened to sample the entire donut pool. Each round the committee member presented a section of the donut to the other members and each donut was given a label of in/out or maybe. One percent milk was used to cleanse the palette. After each donut was considered a final bracket and seeding was established.
The committee was selected on the basis of both credential and dedication, and was intended to represent the variety of tastes in the community. A short biography inspired by true events of the committee members follow alphabetically:

Adrienne Harreveld: Originally from Jupiter Florida, Adrienne has spent her undergraduate and early professional years in Durham North Carolina. While always a fan of pastries in general, Adrienne developed an intimate connection with donuts as a result of the late night concert scene and the inevitable brunch that follows. She is also “tight” with Lindsey, one of the founders of a local donut shop Monuts. Her overall enthusiasm can be summarized in the fact that she primed for the selection committee by having a donut before arriving. Other interests/achievements include local music, politics and the founding of the Durham Living Wage which commends employers for providing financial opportunities to employees.

Camille Blanco: Camille earned her donut chops in the city that never sleeps. If you aren’t sleeping, there is never a bad time for a donut. As for Camille, don’t let her small frame and warm heart fool you. There’s a fierce competitor in there that demands substance. If the product doesn’t hold she won’t sugar coat it. During one of the more intense selection debates she declared, “I don’t like powdered sugar, and I don’t like this donut.” Camille is obtaining her MBA, is a social media savant, and enjoys travel and design, particularly donut inspired pillow headgear.

Eric Gibbs: A simple conversation with Adrienne about taste-testing various donuts fermented in Eric’s head until it rose into a full vision of Donutology. Long a fan of the elegance of the French pastry scene, Eric is excited to turn his attention to the American pragmatism that is the donut. Like a quality donut, Eric may be just a little over the top at times but always welcome. A high energy individual ready to explore new territory and ideas, Eric hopes others will join in his excitement for this new donut bracket. Eric also enjoys speaking in the third person.

Joshua Rasmussen: Joshua has spent years cultivating experience and expertise in the donuts larger round relative pie. The ease of transition to Donutology however should come as no surprise given he is a proud Oregonian. The state has a reputation for being constantly glazed over by rain clouds, and boasts some of the country’s most famous donut shops such as VooDoo Donuts and Joe’s Donuts. A man determined to get to the truth, Joshua proved to be the heartiest of the selection committee, bravely consuming candidate donuts while the rest of the committee was inundated. Pursuing a PhD. In Economics Joshua is a passionate fan of football and obscure hymns.

Senor Michael Cureton: A student of hospital administration, it should either be a shock, or completely expected that Michael would be promoting the consumption of a lot of donuts. Michael brings a lot more than knowledge of the health care system and donuts to the table. Michael takes the hole in the middle of the donut and fills it with enthusiasm. An accepting and caring individual, the most difficult part of Michael’s selection duties was choosing which donuts to cut. The committee is proud to have such an individual, even as it runs out of gas trying to come up with reasons why people are qualified to select donuts. Michael enjoys Spanish culture, and playing the card game BANG! with pop guns and fake mustaches.
